Indie Film Lounge

Launched in September 2002, Indie Film Lounge was conceived as a forum to open doors for emerging diverse filmmakers and talent, while introducing them to established members of the Canadian and international film community. Each year in August a select group of new film talent – the Emerging 20 (E20) – are chosen based on their projects, potential and previous experience within the film industry. After the selection, the E20 participate in a series of events hosted by ReelWorld. These events include two ReelPrep Workshops, a networking cocktail reception, a morning of Face2Face sessions, an afternoon consisting of Case Studies and industry panels. IFL brings together producers, directors, writers, actors, government funders, investors, broadcasters, distributors, curators, programmers and other industry professionals from within both the Canadian and international film community.

Indie Film Lounge kicks off with the always well attended cocktail reception, which allows everyone to mingle and network. The reception is an intimate invite-only event that provides an excellent opportunity for our E20 to meet with established industry insiders. Our cocktail reception is a great place to bump into the industry’s movers and shakers!

The following day features our Face2Face sessions, Panels and CaseStudies segment. The popular Face2Face sessions give our E20 the opportunity to have one-on-one sessions with a select group of industry mentors who specialize in distribution, broadcasting, producing, writing and directing. Face2Face allows the E20 to pitch their projects, engage in discussion and receive feedback regarding their ideas.

ReelWorld Case Studies was established in 2006 and has become a much anticipated addition to the Indie Film Lounge. Case Studies provide a forum for professional filmmakers and key funders to discuss their most recent film or television projects in front of an audience, within an intimate conversation-style setting.  The Case Studies segment allows both our Emerging 20 and our invited guests to gain valuable insight into Canadian film and television productions and project management.

In addition to the Case Studies, ReelWorld also presents Panels. These Panels cover a wide variety of topics relating to the film industry, such as: Finding Film to Fit Your Budget, Moving Into 3-D: A Discussion of Current 3D Technology & Production and From Music to the Mix: Unravelling the Mystery of Post-Sound.

Is your organization interested in hosting a ReelWorld Panel at our 2012 Indie Film Lounge? If you have a creative and current topic relating to the film and entertainment industry that you would like to present, please contact the ReelWorld office at 416.598.7933 or email info(at)reelworld.ca.

ReelWorld provides a platform and an engaging audience of filmmakers, screenwriters, producers, directors and actors who want to generate a discussion about present issues and ideas within the industry.
