Cranberry Flirt is short, sweet, and FUNNY. Marianne Phung’s use of the Meddling Mother archetype trying to find her unkempt daughter love is not only hilarious, but incredibly smart writing and filmmaking. Phung has taken a facet of her own experience with her culture to offer a very relatable yet specific commentary on generational differences between child and parent.
This quirky comedy reminds all of us that, although well-intentioned, all mothers regardless of ethnic background can be very annoying... but we love them anyway.
Marianna Phung is a Toronto-based director, writer and actor of Vietnamese descent. Her filmmaking awards include Best International Short and Best Director nominee at the Houston Comedy Film Festival, Best Director at Toronto's 48 Hour Film Challenge, Audience Choice Award at Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival, Best Narrative Short at Creations International Film Festival and Best Experimental Short at Jelly Fest in LA.
