PROGRAMMERS NOTES
Tesfaye (Hope) is an evocative new short film by Daniel Negatu that takes you into the turmoil, longing and reflections of an Ethiopian castaway who immigrates to Canada. Based around a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, this arthouse film shares the story of a man being rescued at sea in Madagascar and his subsequent journey to Halifax, Canada. Shot in Ethiopia and Canada, the film recounts the life of ተስፋዬ/Tesfaye - caught between nostalgia for his home country and the possibility of a better life in another one.
