ALFONS ADETUYI
Award-winning Director and Producer, Inner City Films

Award-winning Director and Producer Alfons Adetuyi creates successful cross-cultural films and television series. Alfons has produced and/or directed over 100 hours of prime-time features, documentaries, dramas and lifestyle series selling to over 60 countries. His company Inner City Films specializes in international co-productions and initiated the Canada/South Africa Treaty. 

Alfons has been featured in Indie Wire‘s ‘Shadow and Act’ Filmmakers to Watch, and named one of 2018’s Top 30 Black Directors by blackfilm.com. His recent rom-com LOVE JACKED streams on Netflix worldwide, and previous dramatic feature HIGH CHICAGO premiered at Reelworld, receiving Canadian Feature and Audience Choice Awards. Adetuyi is currently in production on CHRISTMAS IN DETROIT for Lifetime, in pre-production on the  adventure feature DREAMS OF THE MOON and in-development on his fifth co-production the political-thriller series RIO TEN.

MEET ALFONS ADETUYI

Always loved film but there was a Teacher Jack Middleton Smith, who taught at Sudbury Secondary School in Sudbury for many years, he was an inspiration to me and my brothers, he encouraged and allowed us to explore our creativity.  (introducing them to film, and the privilege of taking audiovisual equipment home to create their projects. 

 

When I first visited his father’s homeland of Nigeria I was captivated and inspired by the storytellers who told stories standing on wooden crates in the middle of the village square

 

My family is also very creative (in the blood) we grew up experimenting, creating something out of nothing, four young men out of small-town Sudbury, Ontario.  Brothers (Tom, Amos, Robert and Joey) and sister (Veronica) are all creative in their own right (writers, directors, producers, artists) and when we can  still collaborate on projects

Sometimes you have to take risk, bet on yourself and own understanding of the market. That is how new models emerge and new ... (i.e. South Africa). Understanding who the Audience is for your film.

Starting out with a young family

Some of the industry challenges included the need to be open to diverse stories and alternative types of funding, marketing and distribution models.  Inner City Releasing was created to have better control over our releases. Understanding that there was an audience and market for diversity content, we began self-distributing over a decade ago years ago with Skin Deep and have never looked back.
