DOCUMENTARY I UAE 2015 I 8 MINS. I ARABIC (ENG SUBS)
Omnia, a 27-year-old Egyptian woman, contemplates what it means to be whole after a traumatic childhood event leaves her physically and spiritually wounded. Telling her story as fabrics are poetically stitched and unstitched, Omnia asks us to consider the meaning of girlhood in a society where genital mutilation exists.
Amna is the director of Omnia, a short documentary about a young Egyptian woman still struggling with the psychological and physical effects of undergoing Female Genital Cutting as a child. The film has been selected at festivals including Hot Docs, Melbourne International Film Festival, and Dubai International Film Festival and has so far collected 5 awards internationally. Born in 1988 and raised in Abu Dhabi, Amna graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Hebrew and Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
