THE COLOR OF MEDICINE

Programmer's note:

It was an all black hospital. Developed at a time of intense segregation, for some it became the only option to study medicine and nursing. More than a facility, Homer G. Phillips Hospital was an institution that galvanized an African American community. Poignant and insightful film about a founding Hospital, which tracks the black migration story, commemorating generations of medical professional pioneers that helped establish the American black middle class in St. Louis.

Synopsis:

An absorbing and historic recollection of a 2nd generation physician and alumnus of Homer G. Phillips in 1963, Dr. Earle Robinson Jr., whose father was one of the 1st interns to graduate in 1939, from one of the nation’s pre-eminent African-American medical training hospitals, Homer G. Phillips, in St. Louis Missouri.
