Shehrezade Mian is a director and producer from Pakistan who seeks to tell bold, unconventional stories that explore the human condition.
As a director, Shehrezade is drawn to South Asian Muslim stories that tackle taboo subject matters in her community. She seeks to challenge audiences with her films, and believes that cinema can teach us something about ourselves, and about life.
As a creative producer, Mian was selected for the competitive Toronto International Film Festival x Netflix Talent Accelerator Fellowship and the European Audio Visual Entrepreneurs (EAVE) On Demand Access Program presented by the Canada Media fund and National Screen Institute. Mian was also selected for the WIFT Connect mentorship program with VICE Media in 2020.
In 2019, her feature film Concrete Valley was selected for Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch program and is slated to premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. Her films have also been awarded funding by the Canada, Ontario and Toronto Arts Council. Mian also recently executive produced Worth (19), which won the Air Canada Short Film Award at the Reel Asian International Film Festival.
