PROGRAMMERS NOTES

Once upon a time in the far West — now called B.C., Canada — Tzouhalem, a young adult deprived of motherly love, rose in the form of a fierce warrior to avenge his mother and brother's blood. The reputation of his power soon spread all over the territory and loomed so large it swerved into the mythological.

Harmoniously blending interviews with dramatic reenactment scenes, the filmmakers examine colonialism, the encounter between settlers and Indigenous People, and the Indigenous juridical system against the backdrop of Tzouhalam's story while preserving the rise and fall of a prominent figure in Cowichan's oral history for the next generations.
