The Access Reelworld Wage Subsidy Program supports the hiring of four (4) mid-career professionals who identify as Black, Indigenous or as Persons of Colour. The program provides wage subsidies to mid-level and senior professionals, covering a six-month, full-time position. These placements are designed to offer meaningful industry experience, mentorship, and skill development.

Eligibility requirements for production companies

  • Must be a CMPA or AQPM member in-good-standing

  • Operate from a physical office in Canada

  • Currently employ the equivalent of at least five (5) full-time staff

  • Have an active project in production

What is the Access Reelworld Wage Subsidy Program?
The Access Reelworld Wage Subsidy Program is a new initiative from Reelworld Screen Institute that supports paid, six-month placements for four mid-career Black, Indigenous, and racialized professionals within Canadian production companies. This program is funded by the Canada Media Fund through the Government of Canada’s Changing Narratives Fund.
What are the goals of the program?
  1. Provide mid-career professionals with meaningful, full-time in-office work experience within a production company
  2. Build sustainable industry career pathways for underrepresented talent
When does the program run?
Placements begin in August 2025 and run until February 2026.

How is this program connected to Access Reelworld?
Access Reelworld is Canada’s largest open directory of Black, Indigenous and racialized crew and screen talent. This new wage subsidy program expands on that mission by connecting talent to paid, structured job placements and mentorship within leading production companies.
For Production Companies Who is eligible to apply as a production company?
To qualify, companies must:
  • Be members in-good-standing with the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA)
  • Operate a physical office in Canada
  • Employ a minimum of five (5) full-time staff or the equivalent
  • Have an active production during the placement period
  • What does the wage subsidy cover?
    The program provides funding to cover the full-time salary of one mid-career professional for six months, plus a contribution toward training and mentorship costs.
    Can companies select their own candidate?
    No. Candidates will apply through Reelworld’s portal and will be matched in consultation with the production company and the Reelworld team. Companies are welcome to express preferences during the selection process.
    Can we host more than one placement?
    No. Each selected production company may host only one placement through this program cycle.
    What are the expectations for training and mentorship?
    Companies must commit to:
  • Providing hands-on, supervised experience
  • Assigning dedicated staff mentor
  • Offering constructive feedback and professional development opportunities
  • When is the application deadline for companies?
    Applications must be submitted by June 16, 2025.

    For Mid-Career Professionals

  • Who is eligible to apply for a placement? Applicants must:
    • Identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour
    • Be legally able to work in Canada
    • Be a mid-career professional in Canada’s screen sector
    • Have experience in or interest in working within a production company
    • Be able to work on-site, Monday to Friday
  • What roles are available? Roles will vary depending on the host company’s needs. Possible areas include development, business affairs, marketing, post-production, or producing. This program is not for independent project development.

  • Is this a remote opportunity? No. You must be available for in-person work at the production company’s office location.

  • Is this program open to emerging or entry-level professionals? This program is specifically designed for mid-career professionals looking to build on their production company experience. Eligible applicants will be assessed by the Reelworld team. Final selection and matching will be done in consultation with the host companies.

  • Is this opportunity open to creatives developing their own films or series? No. This program is not for individuals looking to produce or develop their own projects. It is for those interested in growing professionally within a production company structure.
  • When will placement applications open? Applications for mid-career professionals will open in late June 2025. Stay tuned for updates.
